Newbridge or nowhere! Dublin GAA star to attend community showcase

Eight-time All-Ireland winner, Michael Darragh Macauley is due to speak at the Newbridge Community Showcase in Newbridge Town Hall on Saturday 21 September. Macauley was recently appointed CEO of Sanctuary Runners, one of 30 groups signed up for the event.

“I am delighted to be getting involved in the Newbridge Community Showcase this year,” he said. “I'll be running with our Sanctuary Runners team in the morning and then speaking on behalf of the organisation at the showcase in the afternoon. All welcome at both events! Community groups are the lifeblood of any town and it's so important to highlight the great work being done in Newbridge.” 

The Showcase is designed to highlight all the community has to offer in terms of social, cultural, community and sports groups and to give people an opportunity to chat with group leaders and to sign up as members and volunteers. 

There is a particular fáilte for people who have recently moved to the town and who may not be aware of the extent of the clubs, groups and public services that are available.

The free event which takes place between 1-3pm in the Town Hall is co-hosted by Newbridge For All and Newbridge Community Development. There is still space for groups to sign up and they should email newbridge4all@gmail.com to register.

“Newbridge is a fantastic town and it’s heartening to see the voluntary effort that goes into building our community day in day out,” said organiser Evonne Boland from Newbridge Community Development. “We especially pay tribute to people from other countries who have made Newbridge their home, sometimes in difficult circumstances. It’s great to see them participate in groups like the Tidy Towns and to witness how the community has embraced them and demonstrated the values of our community.”
