Liam O’Flynn was born in Kill in 1945, the son of the school principal and church organist. After early immersion in family music, he learned his craft at the feet of Tom Armstrong and Leo Rowsome.
When he was 27 he set up Planxty with Andy Irvine, Donal Lunny, and someone you may have heard of from Newbridge, and between them and the Chieftains they brought traditional music to the world.
Following their break-up 11 years later, Liam followed a solo career on the pipes that saw a who’s who of the music and entertainment world beat a professional path to his door.
