Seasonal smorgasbord of cinema at Kildare arts centre

THE Riverbank Arts Centre has announced a brand-new Autumn season of cinema which will include the 25th anniversary of French cult classic Amélie, a Derry Girl, an Antman, and will culminate in the most famous ‘Yippee-Ki-Eh…’ non-Christmas Christmas film of all time.

The season starts with John Carney’s Power Ballad (14 September) starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas, before Nicola Coughlan joins Éanna Hardwicke and Siobhán McSweeney in NT Live’s T he Playboy of the Western World on the 17 September.

October kicks off with Silent Lamb Jodie Foster starring as psychiatrist Lilian Steiner who mounts a private investigation into the death of one of her patients, whom she is convinced has been murdered in A Private Life on 5 October.

DJ Ahmet (12 October) follows a 15-year-old boy from a remote Yuruk village in North Macedonia who finds refuge in music while navigating his father's expectations, a conservative community and his first experience with love.

In the days after Halloween Slasher movie fans are in for a treat as Gillian Anderson stars as the ‘final girl’ in Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma on the 2 November, while Lance Daly’s coming-of-age comedy drama Trad (16 November) is a joyful celebration of the power of trad music.

Cult classic Amélie (7 December) celebrates its 25th anniversary with a return to the big screen, while Jim Carrey steals the show in How The Grinch Stole Christmas on 19 December.

The season draws to a close with the much debated ‘is it really a Christmas film?’ Die Hard on Monday 21 December.
