Talented Athy singer unveils new single
Katie Roycroft's latest video has been getting a lot of views on TikTok
A TALENTED young singer from Athy has released a new single that is garnering quite a bit of praise.
Katie Roycroft recently unveiled a love song by the name of which she wrote about her boyfriend Josh – he must be chuffed with that!
“Oh he is, he’s delighted,” Katie said.
The Athy woman wrote the song earlier this year – in 15 minutes no less – but didn’t get it recorded until a couple of weeks ago. One of her friends, Ilya, is a producer in Carlow.
“People are loving it, absolutely loving it,” she said.
“I've got like a lot of good feedback on TikTok especially, people love it on TikTok, they're always commenting on the video.”
The video was shot close to home. “In my bathroom!” she explained. “Me and my friend were on a budget, so we said ‘why not?’”
Katie, a former student at Ardscoil na Tríonóide, has two brothers and a younger sister, and is the daughter of Gemma and John.
She is currently studying music performance in Carlow Institute of Further Education and describes her style as ‘alternative indie’.
Two American singer-songwriters are a major source of inspiration – Lana Del Rey, whose music is known for her cinematic quality, and Teddy Swims who blends genres like R&B, soul, country and pop.

As for the future?
“I’m going to do an EP next,” Katie revealed.
