Traveller Pride Day returns to Kildare next week

Students from St Michaels NS dropped in to hear the stories and Traveller culture at last year's Pride event
Kildare Traveller Action is holding its third annual Traveller and Roma Pride event on Thursday next 29 May in Ryston Sports and Social Club.
The event forms part of a two-week national and local programme celebrating Travellers' culture, heritage, and unique contributions and achievements and provides an opportunity for Travellers to celebrate their identity in a safe space. This year, the theme for Traveller Pride Week is ‘Empowering the future — The next generation of Irish Travellers’.
Kildare Traveller Action events have been organised by Travellers for Travellers, and there will be a Traveller fair day with fun and games for all the family. Some stalls and workshops which highlight Traveller culture.
There will be flower making and traditional craft, bread making, photo exhibition, fair games, guess how many sweets are in the jar, the name of the doll, face painting balloon modelling and other fun games. There will be food and an ice cream van on the day and everyone is welcome to join us from 2 to 6pm on Thursday next 29 May.
The highlight of the event will be the Traveller got Talent competition where Travellers will show their talent. This starts at 4pm. There will also be a free raffle and lots of prizes on the day.
This is a free event and we welcome everyone to join.
