AROUND 100 people came together to celebrate the birthday of a beloved and respected figure in Athy, Cha Chanders, last weekend.

Cha’s family were expecting 70 or 80 people to attend, but the total number on the night is a testament to the man’s popularity.
Cha’s brother Rob said: “It went very well, beyond our expectations. Everybody knew everybody. It was so lovely to see.”

The party was held in the Clanard Court Hotel which was was decked out with balloons, with a pint of Guinness and Gaelic football cake to feed the party-goers.

Family and friends from Athy and across the country came to celebrate.
Athy Town AFC came out for the party and gave Cha a special president's blazer, honouring his work as president.

Music was provided by Rob Chanders and his son, with a special mention for Geraldine and Jimmy who sang.
