ATHY Halloween parade was hailed as a resounding success, with Emily Square packed to capacity for an evening of costumes, entertainment and town spirit.
Organised by Athy Town Promoters, the event attracted large crowds of families and children, with no rain helping to run the event smoothly.

Speaking about the celebrations, Patricia Berry of Athy Town Promoters said the evening was “absolutely fantastic”, with Emily Square filled to capacity.
“The weather was in our favour, and we were very lucky to have such a fine day. The amount of children dressed up in fancy dress was incredible,” she said.

The festivities began with a parade departing from Woodstock Street at 6.30pm, arriving at Emily Square by 7pm. The evening’s entertainment continued until around 8.30pm.
A highlight of the event was the large number of entries in the fancy dress and pumpkin competitions. More than 40 prizes were awarded for best fancy dress, with categories covering children and adults, while over 30 prizes were presented for the best carved pumpkins.

The packed programme of entertainment included DJ Gary, a Punch and Judy show, stilt walkers, a juggler dressed as Dracula and a spectacular fire show.
Organisers said the event was a fantastic celebration for Athy, with the evening showcasing the strong community spirit that continues to bring people together.

Athy Town Promoters also extended their thanks to the many organisations and volunteers who helped make the event possible.
Special recognition was given to An Garda Síochána, Civil Defence, Order of Malta, O.N.E., Athy Fire Services, Tidy Towns and the Kildare County Show Team for their support.

The organisers also acknowledged the event’s marshals, volunteers and four judges, who faced a difficult task in selecting winners from the many creative costumes and pumpkins on display.
Reflecting on the evening, the Patricia described it as “another big success story” for the new revamped Emily Square.
