Anchor Youth Club has officially launched, after a year of finding its feet. The new youth club in Mount Hawkins, Athy offers a welcoming environment for 12-17-year-olds to hang out and try new things.
The club is run by volunteers from the local community, who organise projects for the members and oversee the club meetings. The club is currently running an ancestry project with the Blueway Arts Studio and recently finished a project with Heart on Your Sleeve, designing hoodies and jumpers.

The club is hosting a Halloween party at the end of the month, which it’s preparing for now by doing arts and crafts on Friday evenings. Drumming sessions with Jabba Jabba Jembe will be on in the club in November.

Marie Keane, a volunteer from the club, said: “We hope to connect with our local groups and to create a sense of community for the kids. We want to have a welcoming and safe environment for our kids and somewhere for them to go where they can meet up and hang out with each other.

"We try and provide different activities that they mightn’t have done before to try and get them out of their comfort zone.” The club runs from 8-10pm on Friday evenings in the parish centre in Mount Hawkins, Athy.
Anyone interested in joining the club, or volunteering with it is welcome to pop in any Friday evening and have a look at what’s going on. The club also has a Facebook and an Instagram page.
