KILCULLEN Community Action, organisers of the recent Fairy Trail Family Fun Day in the town, have already confirmed a date for next year’s event following what they described as a successful day despite the elements. It will be Saturday, 5 June 2027.

The Fun Day, which was held in Kilcullen's Valley Park, drew a steady stream of families and visitors throughout the Saturday afternoon (6 June), even as conditions shifted between rain, wind, dry spells, and, eventually, sunshine. Event project leader for KCA, Antoinette Buckley, said that although the rain affected the early part of the occasion, attendance picked up later.

“It ended up a great day, and it’s a wonderful event,” she said.

She added that families especially appreciated that all activities were free at a time when costs are rising.

“Things have got so expensive for families — they really appreciated that they didn’t have to spend money on the day, and even the ice cream was free,” she said.

Visitors enjoyed entertainment from Mr and Mrs Bubbles, Punch and Judy, magic, free ice cream, face painting, and storytelling.

The Family Fun Day is supported by Kildare Credit Union and Kildare County Council.

Appreciation was also expressed for the cooperation of other local groups involved in the day, including the canoe club, which helped manage the Kilcullen Lions Duck Race fundraiser, integrated into the day.

The winning ducks were number 2, owned by Grace Sheridan; number 114, owned by Paul The Butcher; and number 236, owned by Gabby Caporelli.

The Family Fun Day organisers have already discussed possible additions for the 2027 event, including live music.
