Cloak on the Moat hosts community talent

The Village Voices choir
THE CLOAK on the Moat event ran once again for its third year, bringing people together from South Kildare to the Moat of Ardscull near Kilmead.

The free event hosted by Village Voices community choir, ran a brilliant line-up of entertainment from music to folklore, all focused on the celebration of our patron saint, Brigid.
The event had a brilliant turnout with local families, their children running around having the best fun, joined by community figures on the day like cllr Aoife Breslin, Garda Sean O’Mahony and Labour's Mark Wall TD.

Event organiser and president of Village Voices choir, Joy Gordon, said: “It was a super event, by the community for the community. There was a great turnout despite it being chilly on the day.”
She added: “It was purely the generosity of the community bringing it together. It's like everything, you can organize all these things, but you need people to put the shoulder to the wheel and they certainly did that. It was just wonderful."

Village Voices performed beautifully and were joined onstage by musicians Joseph Gorman, Kevin Morrin, Margaret Brennan and Paul Linehan, with Martin Miley as MC for the day.
Local historian Colm Flynn shared wonderful folklore stories with those in attendance. Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann entertained the crowd, and St Laurence’s set dancers and the Kilmead Irish Figure Dance class put on wonderful performances, with visitors joining in to dance on the crossroads.

Joy said: “The audience joined in for Hooley at the crossroads. It was incredible. We had the
so we got all the audience to participate.”Village Voices thanks all of this year’s sponsors, and hopes to organise another Brigid event next year, even bigger and better.

The choir meets up every Tuesday evening in The Old Hardware, Narraghmore, and is open to anyone that would like to join.

Joy said: “It's been a shining example of how music and song can bring a whole community together.”
