Dangerous dogs signs to be erected in Kildare parks

Following a number of attacks by XL Bully dogs – one of which proved fatal in Limerick last month – a Naas councillor declared his satisfaction that the Council had greed to erect signs in its parks identifying such breeds, and warning the public.
“Will the council install signage identifying restricted breeds of dogs in all parks in Naas Municipal District which outline the obligations for owners who are bringing these dogs to our parks and in some cases letting them off the lead in the area,” Cllr Bill Clear asked.
“Signs in relation to restricted breeds will be erected in the park,” confirmed Simon Wallace, the acting senior parks and landscaping officer at the council’s parks and open spaces department.
“I’m happy with that,” said cllr Clear, in the aftermath of the recent municipal district meeting where he raised the question.
“It’s been kind of contentious, considering the attacks,” he said.
“Recently, I was walking the dog in Monread, and I saw a man there with one of these dogs and he was off the lead,” said cllr Clear.
“I warned him that was not allowed, and he would have to put the dog on a leash, but he said he didn’t have one and left,” he said.
