First community coffee morning a great success in South Kildare

Coffee and community spirit was the name of the game at a recent event held at the rejuvenated old school in Churchtown.
Organised by Churchtown Castlemitchell Community Development Association (CCCDA), their first Community Café morning was a chance for people to enjoy a cuppa and a chat from 11am-1pm on Tuesday 20 August.
The morning was a great success – some 25 people turned up and everyone was buzzing about it. One man is bringing his guitar to the next edition!
Chairman Mick Brazil explained that they renovated the old school and they’re “trying to get things into it now and get it going.”
About two weeks prior they ran a fundraising cake sale and it was from that came the idea of holding a coffee morning.

“Michelle [Wall], when we had the cake sale, she had little leaflets done up and asked people what would they like to see in it,” Mick said.
“One of the local women then asked would we have a coffee morning.” Mick said it’s “fierce important” for a community like theirs to have a place to meet and hold events.
“We're going to start off with once a week and then get feedback from the people then about would they like to do two mornings or what else would they like,” he said of the Community Café morning, adding that they’re talking about running card games like 25 in it.

Another idea would allow people to come and “pick out a book, you maybe sit for an hour and chat and then you bring off the book and then you bring it back, no charge.”
People are very welcome to offer opinions on different events they think might work.
“Feedback from community is what it's about,” Mick said.
