DESPITE being postponed by the closure of the Straits of Hormuz earlier in the Spring, the annual Moone Vintage Road Run maintained its fundraising prowess while providing a superb showcase of vintage vehicles.

A total of 150 vehicles – be they lorries, tractors or motorbikes – took place in May with the cheque presentations to various groups taking place last week.

“We’ve managed to raise over €250,000 over the years so far, and it’s all for different things in the Moone-Timolin community, the church in Moone, the church in Timolin, the karate club, the football club, it all goes back into the area,” said Giles Keppel, chairman of the organizing committee.

“We were supposed to have in on the second Sunday in April, but it had to be put back because of diesel prices."

The oldest participant was a John Deere tractor from before the Second World War, the iconic model with the two front wheels together.

“It’s a great committee, 15 of us from Timolin and Moone, who look after everything from catering to tractor parking,” said Giles.

“Every cent goes back into Timolin and Moone, but sure, they’re only a mile apart,” he said.

The committee will meet again in the next couple of weeks to tidy up 2026 business, “but we won’t really meet for next year’s rally until January”, he said, before paying a final tribute to his committee.
