THERE are probably much nicer ways of seeing Paris but Trevor McDonald from Coill Dubh did the 26 miles and 385 hard yards on foot on 12 April at the French capital’s marathon to raise over €7,000 for the Kildangan Daycare Centre for Alzheimer’s.
The centre, which opened in August 2023 looks after around 60 clients each week and is able to offer home care as well with their nine staff.

“We are very lucky we have people like Trevor who fundraise for us,” said centre manager Sarah Doyle.
“There are a lot of family members who have parents here, but the people who fundraise for us are very decent.
“Trevor’s father-in-law attends here, and also receives home care as well.
“However, our big event is coming up on 20 September with our Memory Walk in Moore Abbey Woods in Monasterevin at 12 noon.
“We’d expect a couple of hundred, but it’s growing and each year and getting bigger as more and more people hear about it.
“But we still find people are surprised that there’s such a centre in Kildangan, but every little bit helps – absolutely.
“Alzheimers and dementia, it chips away, that’s why they say ‘you lose the person twice’.
“Now, we are growing, and while we have pick-up points in Naas and Newbridge, we are hoping to start a pick-up from Athy in the very near future.”
