Cedral St Conleths Park could be set for an epic double header of action on Saturday 14 June involving the senior footballers and hurlers.

Following the magnificent win for the Kildare hurlers in today’s McDonagh Cup final, they will play Dublin next Saturday in the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-finals. With the winners progressing to play in the quarter-finals on the following Saturday there is no chance of that game being moved to the Sunday.

Also guaranteed to be playing in Cedral St Conleths Park next weekend are the senior footballers, in the quarter-finals of the Tailteann Cup. Their potential opponents following this weekend’s results are Offaly, Westmeath or Wexford and that draw will take place on Monday at 8.30am but after winning their group, Kildare are sure of a home draw in the last eight.

That sets up the intriguing possibility of a huge double header of games involving the Kildare teams. As of yet, the newly redeveloped grounds has not hosted two Kildare teams playing on the same day but the extra space within the bowels of the new stand make it a real possibility, and it is thought that the Kildare County Board are pushing hard to make it a reality.

No decision will be made by the CCC until at least after the Tailteann Cup quarter-final draw is made and it is more likely to be late Monday evening before any white smoke emerges from HQ in Croke Park.

There is already at least one double header guaranteed for Newbridge next Saturday with the Kildare ladies footballers meeting Meath in Round 1 of the All-Ireland Senior Championship in Manguard Park at 12.45pm followed by the camogie team playing Carlow at 2.30pm in the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship, and there is now the distinct possibility of another double header just up the road.
