A VIETNAMESE man who’s now a resident in Carlow was before the local district court because his scooter wasn’t insured.
Khoa Vo, a 21-year-old student, was summoned to court after gardaí stopped him while he was on his scooter on the Athy Road, Carlow on 7 April 2024 and found that he didn’t have insurance to ride it.
Solicitor Joe Farrell said that the scooter had a 49cc engine and was like a moped. He continued that Mr Vo was Vietnamese and that back in his home country, “scooters are everywhere” and that he didn’t realise that he needed insurance for it.
He continued that his client was in college and hoped to progress onto university and that he needed his scooter to get out to his classes at the institute for further education.
Judge Geraldine Carthy fined Mr Vo €150, but spared him a driving ban.
