A DOG owner told a court last week that he has paid a donation to a canine charity and was willing to pay compensation to injured parties after his two dogs attacked them.

A garda said he could smell alcohol from him, that he was in “floods of tears” and “visibly upset”.

A GRAIGUECULLEN man was last week served a book of evidence in Carlow District Court and will now face a charge in the circuit court of assaulting a garda sergeant, causing him harm.

The defendant told gardaí that he worked in Dublin Airport and that he was getting a taxi home when he fell asleep and ended up in Co Cork

The defence said there was elements of doubt in the case, given that there was no CCTV evidence of where the dog had come from and other Rottweilers with similar colouring living in the area

The dogs “attacked” a 13-year-old girl and were “barking and snapping” at the girl and her sister

In defence the court heard that the defendant ran the unofficial taxi service more as a way of socialising than making money

The defendant has five previous convictions, all for road traffic offences.
