Athlone Town 2

Klub Kildare 1

Klub Kildare travelled to Athlone on Sunday afternoon. Having defeated Derry City last week this team was hopeful of making it two wins on the trot, but it was not to be as Athlone won two goals to one.

Klub Kildare opened brightly but playing against the wind they found it very difficult to make any headway against Athlone town.

Joshua Farnham opened the scoring after twenty-five minutes with a well hit shot that went into the corner of the net.

Athlone doubled their score in injury time in the first half with a scrappy goal from a corner kick.

Klub Kildare was a different team in the second half and despite numerous chances were only able to score a single goal – a penalty by Jaydon Parsons in the seventy fifth minute.

A disappointed Geordan Lambert Manager of the Under17 team said:

“A difficult first half saw us defend well apart from the two goals. I was annoyed at conceding the second goal, but we changed things a bit in the second half and to be honest we had enough chances to win the game - but it was not to be and we’ll look to improve on those aspects in our next game.”
