U20s denied by late Sligo equaliser
Jayden Parson had another excellent game for the U20s against Sligo Rovers
Sligo Rovers came to FBD Hotels and Resorts Park on Sunday hoping that a win would put them up to second in the table, however a gallant performance from Klub Kildare left Sligo with only one point and at that they were lucky to get a point.
Sligo started the way well and showed how well they have been doing in the league as Aidan Gabidon hit a crisp shot from twenty five yards out that skimmed past Mark Butler in the Klub Kildare goal but went narrowly wide.
Klub Kildare were on the backfoot and Conor Cannon broke through to midfield and passed to Callum Lynch who looked as if he would score but Mark Butler in the Klub Kildare goal was alert to the danger and saved bravely at Lynch’s feet to divert the danger.
Klub Kildare began to get control with Fionn Kirby showing well in defence Jayden Parsons a constant threat up front.
At half-time the score stood at 0-0 The second half saw Klub Kildare begin to take control in the middle of the pitch and it was no surprise when Oisin Irwin pounced in the box and slotted home past McGarvey in the in the Sligo Rovers goal.
With time running out Sligo Rovers got an equaliser in the 87th when Ross Ruane Dalton shot home following a great run down the wing by Michael Conway.
With time running out Mark Butler brought off an unbelievable save from a shot from six yards out to deny Sligo Rovers the three points.
Players to play well were Fionn Kirby, Paul Abankwah, Jayden Parsons and Cillian Hoyne Manager Jamie Smith was happy enough following the game.
“I thought we fought hard throughout the game. We are lacking in certain areas but we should improve over the coming weeks as we get players back from injury and holidays. So, overall, we are happy with a draw,” he said.

Klub Kildare’s Men’s Under 14 travelled up to Donegal to take on Finn harps, in phase two of their league of Ireland league phase. The group were in good form heading into the game, winning their last four games on the bounce.
The team got off to a good start and after a great ball by centre half Zac Clarke found Kildare right back Ryan Breslin, behind the Finn Harps back four, and he slotted home to put Kildare 1 up. The game was very much controlled by Klub Kildare with Rory McCarrick, Joe O’Connor, and Charlie McGann keeping things calm in midfield.
Into the second third, Kildare kept applying pressure and Zac Clarke got on the end of a Luigi Valente corner kick to double the lead. Luigi Valente also found Calvin Kelly Smith to tee him up for a couldn’t miss effort that made the scoreline 3-0. It was anything but easy for the Kildare side, and a really strong defensive effort and overall performance by Adam Walsh and his commanding centre half’s Rhys Land and Zac Clarke, limited chances on Filip Majdak’s goal.
Going into the final third, Kildare made several changes but continued to take the game to Finn Harps, with Land nodding home a fourth goal for the side on the day. Finn Harps were determined and after a poor challenge in midfield they managed to grab themselves a goal from the following free kick, a goal that proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
A commanding performance, with some stand out players, none more so than man of the match, Charlie McGann, a constant presence of technical quality and hard work throughout the game.
The U14’s now turn their attention to next week’s fixture, Sligo Rovers at home, at FBD Park, Killashee Hotel, Naas, where they will be hoping to make it six wins on the bounce.

Klub Kildare fell to a disappointing defeat at the hands of Athlone Town in FBD Hotels and Resorts Park on Saturday in the Under 15 League of Ireland. A competitive first half saw the teams level at 1 each coming up to halftime but two quick goals by Athlone Town turned the game completely in their favour.
Klub Kildare tried in the second half but were unable to pull back the deficit and Athlone Town ran out deserving winners.
