ST Anne’s special school celebrated a heartwarming and joy-filled graduation for five of its senior students this past week at the Westgrove Hotel in Kildare.
What Principal Adeline Wall called “an absolutely fantastic night,” was carefully organised by the school’s graduation committee over the last number of weeks.
The evening was the result of a year’s worth of planning and dedication by both teachers and SNAs, many of whom gave up personal time to ensure the occasion was as special as possible.
The graduation ceremony at the hotel included a three-course dinner for families, speeches, and a slideshow featuring cherished photos of the students from their earliest days at the school up through their teenage years.
“It’s always the emotional part. That’s where the tissues come out,” said Principal Adeline Wall.
Adding to the night’s entertainment was DJ Murt, who did more than play music — he invited both students and staff on stage for performances and interactive games, even bringing out balloon animals and hosting competitions.
Earlier in the year, graduates were also recognised at smaller events, including a class coffee morning, where students showcased their home economics skills, and a ceremony for Junior Cycle Awards.
A final touching gesture was the gifting of personalised hoodies to each graduate. The professionally printed garments featured handprints and signatures from their classmates and read ‘Class of 2025’, offering a keepsake of their school days and a symbol of the their massive achievement. Ms Wall said: “We hope they keep them for many years.”
The celebrations didn’t end at the hotel. On the Monday following the event, the graduates took part in a special final walk through the school grounds.
Wearing their graduation gowns, they were cheered on by the entire school community, from infants to staff, high-fiving along the route and basking in their moment of pride.
“That’s probably one of the highlights of the week. Everyone gets to see them and say goodbye properly,” said Ms Wall.
“This year’s graduates truly got the send-off they deserved. It was a celebration of their journey, their growth, and everything they’ve achieved. We’re incredibly proud.”
