A WOMAN who attempted to rob a charity shop for the blind was placed on a peace bond for 12 months after she brought €500 to court for the poor box.
Lorraine Hennessy (44), The Avenue, Coach Road, Clane was in Naas District Court charged with attempted robbery at the NCBI shop on the Main Street in Clane on 18 January, 2024.
Her solicitor Joe Coonan argued that his client had learned the error of her ways in the interim, and referred to the probation report compiled on her that was now before the court.
“This experience has shown her that alcohol and mental health medication shouldn’t be mixed,” he said.
He then pleaded with Judge Desmond Zaidan to be as lenient as possible with his client, and that she had brought €500 to court for charity as a measure of her contrition.
Judge Zadian nodded, noting in the report “if she continues as she is, she is at low risk of re-offending”, before putting her on a Peace Bond for 12 months, as Mr Coonan handed over her donation.
