THREE Kildare farm families have been recognised for their excellence in grain production at this year’s prestigious Tirlán Quality Grain Awards.
The winners received awards at the Tirlán Quality Grain Awards 2024 ceremony that took place, Wednesday 12 February at The Guinness Storehouse, Dublin.
Anne Cooke of Mullaghmoy, Suncroft, The Curragh, won the Food Grade Oats overall prize, showing her farm’s dedication to producing top-quality grain for the food industry.
In the Green Feed Oats category, the award went to Conlanstown Farm Ltd, based in Conlanstown, Rathangan.
Their achievement shows the high standards of sustainable and nutritious feed grain production in the region.
The third Kildare victory came in the Dried Feed Wheat category, where Mervyn McCann of Bray View, Athy, emerged as the winner, demonstrating excellence in drying and preserving feed wheat to meet industry needs.
John Murphy, Tirlán chairperson, said Tirlán remains Ireland’s largest buyer and user of native Irish grains and has paid a top price at harvest for the last five years.
“There has been a significant increase in the quantity of barley going to the brewing and distilling industry from harvest 2024."
"It is wonderful to get the opportunity to celebrate and recognise the ‘cream of the crop’ among our dedicated and passionate growers here at the Guinness Storehouse today.”
The Tirlán Quality Grain Awards celebrate the highest standards in Irish grain production, recognising growers who consistently deliver premium-quality crops while embracing best practices in sustainability and innovation.
The success of these Kildare farmers highlights the county’s strong agricultural heritage and commitment to excellence in grain production.
