Kildare Rescue Tails: Delaying neutering is not an option for cats
KWWSPCA kittens will not add to the overpopulation of cats in Ireland
THERE has been a lot of demand recently for kitten adoptions. Although we have many in our care, we will not home them until they are at least 12 to 14 weeks old.
At that stage, they will be vaccinated and neutered/spayed, thus preventing unwanted future litters. Female cats can get pregnant as young as 16 weeks so delaying neutering your pet cat is not really an option if they are allowed to leave the house or manage to escape.
Our Cat unit is adamant that KWWSPCA kittens will not add to the overpopulation of cats in Ireland. Enzo, a young lurcher, has had a lot of upheaval in his young life. He came into our care late 2025, was fostered for a period and then came into our Shelter.
From there he was chosen for a new home but had another short period of foster to complete beforehand. During this time, he received his rabies vaccine, got himself a passport and had a full health check before finally moving to his forever home in Finland!

He is now enjoying his fantastic new life in the Finnish countryside. The KWWSPCA was delighted to be the partner charity for the recent ‘PAWmerstown at the Manor’ event held in Johnstown, Co Kildare on 6 June. Many of our volunteers were in attendance and we hosted two fun dog shows.
We are so very grateful for all the donations received from event attendees and our fabulous dog show entrants.
We met many old friends and made some new ones, and are looking forward to the 2027 event already, but hoping for better weather!
In the meantime, the KWWSPCA will have a Dog Show at Punchestown Racecourse on 6 September next so hopefully we'll see some familiar faces having another attempt at gaining a coveted rosette.
The KWWSPCA is a registered charity no. CHY 6280 and can be contacted at kwwspca@gmail.com. All our details can be found at www.kwwspca.ie.
