Kildare rescue tails: dozens of dogs rehomed

Some of the animals in need of a home
Dog Adoptions have begun very well for us with 34 rehomed in the month of January. If that rate continues throughout the coming months it will be a record year.
There are many volunteers involved in the whole process. From those who arrange the intake of a dog, to the people who look after it either at the shelter or in a foster home along with those who bring the dog to the vet for vaccinations, neutering or treatment for injury and illness.
There are also volunteers who photograph and list the dog for adoption and do our social media, those who process the applications, those who facilitate visits by potential owners with follow-up home-checks, those who arrange the adoptions, do the paperwork and provide follow-up communications and then of course the never-ending filing and paperwork that completes the process.
It requires a full team of volunteers, but as we all know, if a job is worth doing, then it’s worth doing well. We get great satisfaction from seeing an unwanted dog come in the gate of our shelter to seeing it leave through the same gate as a very much wanted new family member with a happy life ahead.
We are all volunteers at KWWSPCA with no paid employees at all and we rely completely on the support of our followers and community to do this work. Pictured here are six of our current residents in need of new homes. There details and more photographs can be found on our website www.kwwspca.ie/adopt-a-dog.
Our cat section was just as busy in January with 49 homed and 20 feral cats trapped, neutered and returned to their colonies. Details of available cats can also be found on our website.
Our next fundraiser takes place at our shop, Noah’s Ark, in Newbridge on the evening of Valentine’s Day, 14 February at 7.30pm. One of our volunteers hails from Egypt where his father runs an animal sanctuary for homeless dogs in Cairo. Yasser will give a talk entitled ‘For the love of dogs — from Egypt to Ireland’. Tickets are €10 each, limited to 25 tickets, and are available on the Eventbrite Website.
