Rescheduled KWWSPCA dog show this weekend at Punchestown

A POOR weather forecast for the originally scheduled date of the annual KWWSPCA fun dog show unfortunately forced us to postpone the event. A new date of Sunday 28 September has now been set, and preparations are in full swing for this annual popular event, held with kind permission at Punchestown Racecourse just outside Naas.

Admission to the event and parking is free but there is a fee to enter the various competition categories.

This is very much a fun dog show and is open to all dogs over 6 months of age no matter what shape or breed with no fussy conditions to comply with. Rescued dogs are particularly welcome and even have their own competition class. All we ask is that dogs are always kept on their leads and any dogs on the national restricted breed list wear their muzzles and are carefully handled.

Entry to any competition class is only €5 but just €20 will get you entry to 5 classes. Children particularly love showing their dogs as they get to walk around the parade ring with all the other competitors and the surrounding audience always give them a great welcome with big cheers and rosettes for the winners.

Apart from the usual competition classes of ‘Handsomest Male’ and ‘Fanciest Female’, there is a fancy dress for owner & dog category, a senior citizen with their dog category, a ‘Waggiest Tail’ category along with many more.

The final event of the day is the ever-popular high jump competition.

Our volunteers will be on hand to inform you of our work, our plans for our new shelter, how to volunteer, foster or adopt cats and dogs. There will be light refreshments available, some dog products for sale, a raffle for some lovely hampers, a Teddy Adoption Stall and our resident artist will be doing pet portraits on the day.

We hope to bring some of our current shelter residents to enjoy the event. The competitions begin at 2pm but registration commences at 1pm.

It will be a busy weekend for us as we have another scheduled event for Saturday 27 September - the annual Pet Blessing Service takes place at 3pm at Christchurch, Celbridge. All are welcome.

You can bring a photograph of your pet if your pet is not suitable to bring with you or if sadly your pet has passed away. A collection for the KWWSPCA will be taken up at the ceremony and light refreshments will be served afterwards.
