A DRIVER who was found with alcohol in his blood that was almost five times over the legal limit was put off the road for three years when he appeared before Carlow District Court recently.
Michael Lawler (66) of Blackditch, Nurney, Co Kildare pleaded guilty to a charge of drink-driving at Pollerton Little, Carlow after he was spotted driving erratically by gardaí on 17 June 2024.
Insp Conor Nolan told the court that Mr Lawler was subsequently stopped by gardaí and was found to have a blood alcohol level of 244mg alcohol to 100ml of blood, while the maximum limit is 50mg of alcohol. Insp Nolan continued that Mr Lawler had one previous conviction for drink-driving, dating back to 2007, for which he was disqualified from driving for two years.
Judge Geraldine Carthy noted the alcohol level and banned the defendant from driving for three years, while also fining him €300.
