Naas Racecourse: Preview and Tips for Wednesday’s Seven-Race Meeting

Up first is a two-year-olds’ six-furlong maiden (17.30). With lots of newcomers and unknowns here, finding a winner is difficult, but some promising form is brought to the table by Anglesea Bridge and New Bond Street. The latter should improve significantly after a green start to things at Cork last time; she should be much better for the experience. Coolmore’s Ile De France could be good, out of a stewards’ room Group One winner.
Second is a six-furlong handicap (18.00). Ohailbhic seeks a hat-trick, but has shown less on turf than the all-weather recently, so looks unlikely. Flaming Rib is on what should be a winnable mark now, having come 13 pounds down the weights since this time last year. All Hail could put in another good performance too after finishing fourth of 10 last time.
The first of our Listed races is next; the five-furlong Marwell Stakes for two-year-old fillies (18.30). Paddy Twomey’s Concorde Landed made a very exciting start to her career over course and distance earlier this month, winning by five lengths. Straight into Listed company, she could be one to consider. Shimmering Sun carries prominent colours and ran well at Royal Ascot, so should factor. English raider Tropical Crown may throw a spanner in the works, though.
Race four is the second Listed race, this time for fillies and mares aged three and older over six-furlongs (19.00). Oh Cecelia is one of the highest rated, but is out of form at present. Connections seek to tackle this with first-time headgear here, but others make more appeal. Tahcawin could receive some interest, but Soul Love is the most consistent at this level, despite her relative inexperience, and she should be the winner.
The fifth race is a mile apprentice handicap (19.30). Dinamine ought to factor on today’s mark, and is in first-time cheekpieces, which may help him here. Mister Garvey might be able to produce some sort of result also, having run well in a big-field handicap at Leopardstown last time, but Morning Approach looks marginally better off here.
Second to last is a seven-furlong handicap (20.00). Jessica Harrington’s Thenandnow ran well over six furlongs last time at Fairyhouse and should be able to make another good show of herself here, while Little Empire has been remarkably consistent lately and could get another place.
A seven-furlong race concludes the card (20.30). After a non-runner was declared, we are left with just three runners. Phenomenal Filly was a close second in Group Three company last time, but Suzie Songs is the top rated and comes here on the back of a better run last time at this track. Fort Vega is entitled to have a proper chance here, but Phenomenal Filly looks the one to be with here.
