A LOCAL man has flagged issues with dumping in a rural location around 5km from Athy.
Vincent Gorman said that the Ardscull to Ballindrum road had become a problem in recent times.
“It’s just in the last couple of weeks there’s been a lot of dumping. A couple of weeks in succession, there’s been lots of black bags and rubbish being dumped along the road”.
Mr Gorman explained that he contacted cllr Ivan Keatley, who, he believes got Kildare County Council to clean up the road.
He is looking to highlight the issue, saying: “If you do nothing about it, the problem just continues”.
He said that it’s become a big problem on rural roads, with the issue being people “who won’t dump on their own doorsteps” but are comfortable doing it in other places.
He said that there was a dumping issue in the area two years ago, but there hadn’t been any problems in the intervening period until recent weeks.
He said:
“Hopefully that’s the end of it but, look it, we’ll keep an eye on it and see how it progresses over the Christmas period”.
It emerged recently that the council is set to roll out CCTV systems at a number of locations – Kildare Town, Newbridge, Clane and Maynooth – following the successful use of CCTV in Athy town.
