DOVIDA is creating 30 new caregiver roles across Kildare and Laois to help support more people to live independently at home and stay connected to their family, friends, and communities.

The new roles will be a mix of flexible and fixed-hour positions, with full-time hours also available for those who would like them. However, many of the company’s caregivers choose their own hours around what best suits their lifestyle.

“In our experience, a lot of people really like the flexibility the job offers,” Sarah Barron, acting General Manager of Dovida for Kildare and Laois. “These roles are particularly popular with people whose children are returning to school or starting school for the first time and those who have other commitments such as studying,” she added.

“Of course, there’s always room for people who want to work full-time, and Dovida is a great place to develop a rewarding career in caregiving,” she said.

Dovida provides a wide range of home care and support services to growing numbers of people across the country.

The organisation’s person-centred approach means that its caregivers build meaningful connections with their clients and empower them to live fuller, more independent lives.

“Dovida is my saviour really in lots of ways,” said one such client Robin Gordon.

“Having home support enables me to have my own corner with my own things and to live as independently as possible. I have cousins who come and visit from time to time, and I’m fortunate in that I have quite a few friends who will ring or call. It all works extremely well,” he added.

Another client, Angela Boyd, spoke about the importance companionship plays in her life.  “I have home help coming in every day, twice a day, and it’s a great thing to have,” she said. “I love the chat. I might talk more than them, but they put up with me!” said Angela.

“And it’s healthy too; it’s great to have the company,” she added.

Dovida employs more than 4,000 skilled, compassionate caregivers nationwide.

Susan Corkery, a Dovida caregiver for almost 20 years, offered this advice to anyone considering a career in care.

"Go for it," she said. "I loved it from the word go."
