‘BOY RACERS’ are giving gardaí the runaround at Newtown, Carlow with no chance of being caught, according to a local councillor.

At a recent meeting of Carlow County Council, cllr Andy Gladney raised the issue of cars gathering in Newtown late at night.

He said that despite gardaí being informed of the gatherings, the situation continues, much to the frustration of local residents.

“The squad car arrives out but they have scouts on duty and the minute they hear anything, they’ll ring down to say the guards are on their way and then they’ll disappear … the minute the traffic corps are gone, they are back again,” said cllr Gladney.

“This is maybe 12.30 at night and up to 20 cars. They do not care. They know there’s only one guard in Bagenalstown and they haven’t a hope of being caught,” cllr Gladney added.
