The need for the Newbridge to Maynooth bus route was brought to the attention of the NTA through a parliamentary by Kildare South TD Mark Wall

THE NATIONAL Transport Authority’s (NTA) has announced that it will consider a public transport link between Newbridge and Maynooth University to facilitate students commuting from the area.

While there are no current plans for the route’s implementation, the NTA assured that it would consider the proposal as part of its review of the overall bus network in Newbridge.

The need for the Newbridge to Maynooth bus route was brought to the attention of the NTA through a parliamentary by Kildare South TD Mark Wall, who believes that “students in Newbridge are being severely let down with no public bus option available to get them to college in Maynooth.”

Currently, there is no direct public route for Newbridge college commuters, with stops in Naas and Celbridge being necessary to access Maynooth University.

Deputy Wall further explained: “A student travelling from Newbridge to Maynooth University using public transport is having to rely on multiple modes of transport with travel times of up to 90 minutes. Private transport operators can also be costly for students and journeys take nearly as long as public transport, with a typical journey taking at least 70 minutes. Travelling that amount of time is completely unsustainable for anyone.”

“With the college year finished these summer months now provide the best opportunity for the NTA to plan for implementing a public bus route for students travelling from Newbridge to Maynooth University.”

“I will continue to push for better public transport options and I encourage any students impacted by the lack of public transport in Newbridge to contact my office at mark.wall@oir.ie.”
