Call for Kildare events app

COUNTY KILDARE could be getting an events app similar to one used in Kilkenny, after a local councillor called for it.
Cllr Noel Connolly brought forward a motion at the most recent full meeting of Kildare County Council, calling on the council to work with stakeholders to look into the introduction of an app similar to the Kilkenny App, which functions as a free local guide featuring a live events calendar, tourist attractions and business locators for the marble county.
Director of services Alan Dunney responded that the local authority has looked at the contents of the app and will investigate how it was created, how it operates, how many people use it and whether something similar would work in Kildare. An important part of the process will be ensuring the mooted app can be kept accurate, relevant and up to date.
The local authority plans to identify the organisations and groups that would need to be involved. The council added that any future development of the project would likely depend on available funding and resources.
Cllr Connolly told the meeting that the app has led him to visit Kilkenny more frequently. He said that “we should be ambitious in how we communicate with our citizens”.
Cllr Chris Pender said that work is ongoing in Newbridge to develop a website for the town.
Mr Dunney added that Into Kildare has “a very strong website”.
