Call on JJ Kavanagh to reconsider Kildare bus cuts

JJ Kavanagh has cut Kildare stops from its 717 service from Clonmel to Dublin
ATHY Municipal District have announced that they will contact bus company, JJ Kavanagh & Sons, about its recent cut of a number of key Kildare stops on the 717 Clonmel to Dublin bus service.
In a move aimed at preserving vital public transportation connections for local residents, cathaoirleach Aoife Breslin has proposed that the Kildare County Council take action to address the recent decision to withdraw the “very vital” 717 bus service, connecting Athy to Dublin Airport.
Cllr Breslin put forward the motion urging the council to formally contact JJ Kavanagh to request that the decision to cancel the 717 route be reconsidered.
The 717 service has been an important service for people from Athy for travelling to Dublin Airport.
Cllr Breslin also emphasised the importance of the bus route for the residents of Athy who rely on it for work, such as workers from the Naas meat factory.
She highlighted concerns about the negative impact the service withdrawal would have on local connectivity, and the fact that the service was dropped “without proper consultation”.
She said: “My deep frustration is at how this was withdrawn via online advert."
Cllr Veralouise Behan seconded the motion and said: “We’re getting forgotten by this service.”
