Cat doused in petrol in Athy recovering
Tom is recovering after coming in contact with fuel
A CAT who was doused in fuel has been cared for by a local animal charity for the last two weeks, but is making a steady recovery.
“Our cat section is as busy as ever and are currently providing extra special care to two cats who both arrived in awful condition,” explained Sally McCaffrey, manager of the Kildare and West Wicklow Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (KWWSPCA).
“Tom came in a few weeks ago in such a terrible state that we cannot possibly publish a photo taken at the time.
“It is thought that some type of fuel had been poured on him due to the scent.
“He smelt very heavily of petrol or diesel, and it could have been accidental or deliberate,” said Sally.
“He has been receiving continuous veterinary treatment and has been in isolation at the Shelter where he is loved and pampered.
“Samples have been sent for analysis , but the results are not back yet.
“Thankfully he is on the mend and is looking so much better with his skin now clean and pink and he is in good form.
“Obviously, he’s somebody’s pet because he’s a very affectionate cat.
“We had to be careful at first because we didn’t know if he will rub any more fur off.
“He was found by a member of the public outside Athy, and he was treated by VetCare Athy.
“Accidental or deliberate, we’ll never know, but he is enjoying life in Kitty Cottage for now,” she said.
“Another cat, Cole, has been living rough for some time but it was discovered that he had a broken jaw so he has now come into our care at the Shelter and is receiving veterinary treatment.
“It is hoped he will make a good recovery, but our vet bills are climbing and we appreciate all donations received.
