The temperature is set to plummet to as low as -4 degrees in some places over the weekend.

According to Met Éireann, Friday will see some snowfall and sleet in Ulster, with scattered showers across Ulster and Connacht. The day will be chilly with temperatures between 2 to 6 degrees.

Friday night will see some frost, as well as scattered showers mainly in Ulster and Connacht.

On Saturday, there will be scattered wintry showers which will continue in Ulster and Connacht, accompanied by light to moderate northwesterly breezes.

"Sharp to severe" frosts may develop, with lowest temperatures of -4 in some areas, as well as fog and possibly some "freezing fog patches".

The weather forecaster says that the frost and ice may be slow to clear on Sunday, but temperatures will increase to 1 to 5 or 6 degrees before dropping to -4 to 0 overnight.

In Northern Ireland, a snow and ice warning was in place for all countries, which expired at 10am on Friday.
