Consent refused for acquisition of Newbridge Hall

O'Modhrain Hall, Cutlery Street, Newbridge.

An BORD Pleanála has formally refused consent for Kildare County Council’s application to compulsorily acquire a derelict site at Ó Modhráin Hall, Cutlery Road, The council sought to acquire the site, which had been deemed derelict and was described in detail in the accompanying notice of intention.

The site, which was originally dedicated to Eamonn Ó Modhráin, a local figure in the Irish National Revival Movement, was meant to serve as a hub for Irish culture, education, and youth activities within Newbridge.

In its decision, An Bord Pleanála refused consent for the acquisition, citing a formal request from Kildare County Council to withdraw the application.

This request prompted the Board to conclude that it would be appropriate to refuse consent.

This refusal halts the council’s attempt to take control of the site under compulsory acquisition powers. It remains to be seen what next steps, if any, the council will take in connection with the future of Ó Modhráin Hall.
