KILDARE County Council has confirmed that two vacant housing units on Main Street, Castledermot are currently secured with metal shutters as a temporary safety measure.

The council said the shutters were installed to protect both the properties and the public while essential repairs are pending.

The reply was in response to a query from cllr Brian Dooley at a recent meeting of Athy Municipal District, who asked if it was necessary to board up the properties.

Officials stressed that the measure is not permanent and will be removed once the works are completed.

Separately, the council noted that several other boarded-up buildings on Main Street have been placed on the Derelict Sites Register. These properties remain in private ownership.

The Town Regeneration Team will continue to monitor progress on all affected sites, according to the update issued by officers with Kildare County Council’s Housing Maintenance and Town Regeneration departments.
