Council purchase Newbridge property for youth activities

Newbridge
A Newbridge property on the Athgarvan Road has been purchased by Kildare County Council for youth activities.
The update follows a motion put forward by cllr Noel Heavey at a recent Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, requesting a list of viable options for youth-focused investment in the town.
In response, the council confirmed it has recently purchased a property in Newbridge to be used for youth activities.
Cllr Heavy said: “When adults work on the youth project agenda magic happens, but there has to be a premises to do it.”
While this is good news, Cllr Heavy highlighted the work required for developing the project to its full potential: “There will need to be a lot of investment put into it.”
“The community team is actively investigating funding options to advance the project,” responded the council’s Senior Executive Officer of the Community Department.
The council stated that youth work falls under the responsibility of Education and Training Boards (ETBs), and reiterated its commitment to supporting young people through various initiatives. Further details on the project is expected as the council explores potential funding sources.
