Couple allegedly assaulted in Athy pub scuffle

The incident happened outside the C.I. Bar in Athy

A MAN who is alleged to have assaulted a woman and her partner outside an Athy pub, will have to return to court in February to have his case heard.

Shane Foley (31), The Green, Old Grange Wood, Monasterevin appeared in Athy District Court to plead not guilty to the three charges of common assault.

It is alleged that Mr Foley got into a scuffle with the couple inside the C.I. Bar on Duke Street on 7 August 2023, as “they left the nightclub, and allegedly they got assaulted outside”.

“There’s two injured parties, and one of them is heavily pregnant,” added Sergeant Dave Hanrahan, as if to explain her non-appearance, and thus why the case could not be heard in its entirety at this time.

“Her partner is also one of the injured parties,” he clarified.

After consideration Judge Desmond Zaidan has accepted jurisdiction, and adjourned hearing the case until 25 February.
