REVISIONS are being carried out to the design of the proposed Active Travel and Safe Routes to School project in Monasterevin, Cllr Kevin Duffy was told at the recent Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting. The councillor had sought an update on the timeframe for the project's move to a Part 8 process.

Officials said the National Transport Authority had suggested amendments to the draft plan, and as a result, the council's consultants are making revisions. Once the NTA has approved the design, the scheme will be presented to the elected members in the first instance and then brought through a statutory public consultation process.

Accepting the report, cllr Duffy commented that this project had been one of the first on the current council's list, but hadn't yet been progressed.

"I've raised this on three or four occasions," he said. "We need to move this project forward instead of going round in circles. I would like to see a deadline or target date."

Officials agreed to come back with a timeline, though it could be February or March before the project goes to the next stage.
