Developer revises down plans for housing at former Kildare garden centre

The former Guilfoyles Garden Centre in Kildare Town
A Kildare developer has revised down proposed plans for housing at a former garden centre.
Straffan’s Glengolden Builders had sought planning permission for the demolition existing house and garage at the former Guilfoyles Garden Centre, Grey Abbey Road, Kildare Town and the construction of twenty homes in its place.
The number of homes have been revised down from 20 to 18 following significant further information requests by Kildare County Council.
There has also been local opposition to the project, including to its scale.
A proposed two-storey apartment block containing six two-bed houses is being replaced with a terrace block containing two three-bed houses and two two-bed houses.
Two other terrace blocks will have four three-bed houses and one two-bed house.
Amendments to the site layout have also resulted in updated car and bicycle parking provisions.
The design for the access at the site frontage and the frontage to the north of the site has been updated to include for a priority junction and continuation of the existing cycle track and footpath along the Grey Abbey Road.
This will tie into the existing cycle track and footpath further north at Grey Abbey View.
The application was due to be decided initially in April, but a decision is now due later this month.
