TWO separate planning applications have been submitted to Kildare County Council by developer David Walsh Homes Ltd., outlining significant revisions and an additional phase of residential development at Shanrath in Athy.

The first application seeks permission to amend previously approved conditions governing the phasing and scale of development on the Shanrath lands.

Housing Increase

A key proposed change would increase the number of units that can commence development under the site phasing plan from 26 to 54, pending further approvals for specific apartment blocks.

The proposal also includes a redesign of three apartment blocks, which would be replaced with a total of six semi-detached homes, comprising two four-bedroom and four three-bedroom houses.

This results in a reduction of six homes in total.

Additional works form part of the amendment, including revised boundary treatments at the entrance to the development and its junction with Rath Park, alongside updated infrastructure works such as surface water drainage, SuDS systems, foul sewer connections, public lighting, and associated site services.

A second application also submitted by David Walsh Homes Ltd proposes the construction of 12 three-bedroom semi-detached houses within the existing Shanrath housing estate.

June decision

The scheme would extend the current residential road network and provide new pedestrian, cycle, and vehicular access routes, along with parking, open space, landscaping, boundary treatments, and play areas.

Both applications are currently at the initial planning stage and will be subject to public consultation before any decision is made by Kildare County Council.

Submissions must be in by 4 June and a decision is to be made by 25 June.
