Bord na Móna and SSE Renewables plan to submit a planning application for Kilberry Wind Farm in 2026

THE PROPOSED Kilberry Wind Farm has been a matter of local debate, with many nearby residents totally opposed to its development.

The ‘No to Kilberry Windfarm’ group are holding their own meeting this week in Kilberry school this Thursday March 6 at 7.30pm about the proposed Kilberry Wind Farm.

All communities near and surrounding Kilberry Bog are welcome to this meeting for “concerned residents.” The group said: “there will be no windfarm officials at it. We will have a petition there that you can sign.” “We will also have people from other wind farm groups who can advise us and help us prep for the developers meetings and what to expect from them.” “We will be sharing our own research that we have been doing in the background.” “I would like to ask you all to please consider putting your name forward on being a representative for your area. There are so many people not on social media and we need boots on the ground to spread the word and keep everyone up to date. We need as many people to help as possible,” it concluded Bord na Móna and SSE Renewables are inviting members of the local community to a series of upcoming public consultation sessions this March regarding the proposed new Kilberry Wind Farm project, which is to be located on Bord na Móna’s landbank across Kilberry Bog in Kildare.

As part of their community engagement programme for Kilberry Wind Farm, Bord na Móna and SSE Renewables have appointed a Community Engagement and Stakeholder Team, including a dedicated Community Liaison Officer to gather feedback from the public and address any questions.

The meetings include: Tuesday, 11 March, 5-8.30pm, Rheban GAA Club, Newtownbert, Bert, Athy, Kildare, Wednesday, 12 March, 5-8.30pm, Nurney GAA Club, Walterstown, Nurney, Kildare, and Thursday, 13 March, 5-8.30pm, Saint Laurence’s GAA Club, Oldgrange, Narraghmore, Kildare.

Bord na Móna and SSE Renewables will develop a draft layout for the wind farm project in the coming months.

Further public consultation events will take place in advance of submitting a planning application in 2026.

Bord na Móna states: “If delivered, the proposed Kilberry Wind Farm would bring a range of benefits to the local area, including a dedicated Community Benefit Fund.”
