A MEDIA student who claimed he didn’t know it was illegal to drive without insurance was spared a disqualification when he appeared before Carlow District Court recently. Kacper Jacub Mazurczak, The Laurels, Carlow pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and failing to produce an insurance cert when he was stopped by gardaí at Burrin Manor, Carlow on 31 August last.
The 22-year-old media student told Judge Geraldine Carthy that he didn’t know it was illegal to drive without insurance cover in Ireland and that he just wanted to practice driving because he was still learning at the time.
Fining Mr Mazurczak €250, Judge Carthy spared him a disqualification but warned that if he was caught again, he’d be put off the road.
