A SPEED check by Athy Roads Policing Unit over the weekend in the Kildangan area led to the arrest of a disqualified driver who was caught travelling at 89km/h in a 50km/h zone.
The motorist was stopped as part of ongoing speed enforcement efforts. During the roadside stop, it was quickly revealed that the individual was already disqualified from driving.
The driver was immediately arrested, charged, and had their vehicle seized on the spot. They are now set to face a day in court.
Gardaí say the incident highlights the power of the Mobility App, which provides officers with live, on-the-spot information about drivers — significantly improving their ability to detect disqualified or unlicensed individuals.
“The bluffing is over,” Gardaí said in an online post, reinforcing their commitment to keeping disqualified drivers off Irish roads.
