A MOTORIST has been arrested and charged with dangerous driving after being detected travelling at an alarming 162 km/h on a motorway by Naas Roads Policing Unit.
The incident occurred recently during routine speed checks, where officers clocked the vehicle at 42 km/h over the legal motorway speed limit of 120 km/h.
Authorities have condemned the excessive speed, noting that such behaviour demonstrates a blatant disregard for road safety and poses a serious risk to all road users.
“Travelling at 162 km/h— 42 km/h over the limit —demonstrates a clear disregard for road safety,” said a garda spokesperson in an online post.
“At such excessive speeds, the risk of serious collisions significantly increases, endangering not only the driver but all other road users.”
Dangerous driving can carry severe penalties. On summary conviction the offence may result in a fine of up to €5,000, imprisonment for up to six months and disqualification from driving for up to two years.
