A DRIVER in Co Kildare was detected speeding 104kph in a 60kph zone during National #Slowdown Day on Monday.
The remarkable speed was detected on a local road, the L7081, at Kilmeague.
An Garda Síochána, in partnership with the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and other stakeholders, conducted a national speed enforcement operation – National #Slowdown Day – which ran for 24 hours from 00:00 to 23:59 yesterday, Monday, 1 September.
Throughout this National #Slowdown Day, members of An Garda Síochána, along with GoSafe Mobile and Static Safety Cameras, detected a total of 920 vehicles nationally travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.
Another local detection was a driver in Nurney travelling in a 80km/h in a 60km/h Zone on the L7071.
Gardaí say the aim of National #SlowDown Days is to remind motorists of the serious risks associated with excessive or inappropriate speed, promote greater compliance with speed limits and support efforts to deter and detect dangerous driving behaviours.
