Drivers racing the lights through Kildare village

The road in Athgarvan
Motorists travelling through Athgarvan from the Kilcullen side are often trying to race the lights, councillors at the July Meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District have been told.
The comment by cllr Noel Heavey was on foot of a motion asking for consideration of speed control measures in the village, following concerns raised by residents.
"There have been some very close calls," he said, asking if engineering solutions might be available.
Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer agreed with her colleague, noting that a speed feedback sign has already been installed at that section of road.
The report to the motion said that the traffic lights in Athgarvan are scheduled for an upgrade, but the municipal district engineer is "unsure" of the speeding issues.
Cllr O'Dwyer said there is also an issue that there is no pedestrian crossing in the village.
She added that the installation of a table-top one could also work as a speed limiter.
