A MAN who was so drunk he told his arresting officers that “he’d kill them, and they wouldn’t last a second with him”, was fined a total of €1,000 at Naas District Court recently.
The court heard how gardaí responded to reports of a very drunken man at Radharc an Caisleán, Caragh Road, Naas on 4 January.
When they arrived, they found Dean Kavanagh (36) from The Paddocks, Naas “very intoxicated, and aggressive”.
“He told the gardaí he’d kill them all, and none of them would last a second with him,” said Sergeant Mary Meade.
“Then, on 11 January in the same place the guards were called again about an intoxicated male.
“He was very abusive, but when he got to the station, he apologized.” Sgt Meade revealed how Kavanagh had seven previous convictions, one of which was for a public order offence.
“Unfortunately, drink is the big problem. He is quite embarrassed, but his previous were all from some time ago,” said his solicitor, Matt Byrne.
“So long as he stays away from alcohol, he’s ok,” he added.
“What does he do? Is he unemployed?” asked Judge Desmond Ziadan.
“No, he drives as a general operative in a factory,” Mr Byrne corrected.
“He is highly embarrassed to be here”.
“Dean, do you remember?” asked the judge.
“To be fair, I don’t,” he replied honestly.
“Oh, fine him €500 on each of the public order charges,” ruled the judge.
