AN E-SCOOTER was seized by Naas Community Gardaí after two individuals under the age of 16 were stopped while riding on a footpath during a routine beat patrol.
The incident prompted Gardaí to intervene, citing safety concerns and legal restrictions surrounding e-scooter use.
The young riders were spoken to at the scene, where Gardaí explained the potential dangers and legal implications of their actions. A follow-up engagement with their parents was also carried out to reinforce the message.
Gardaí are reminding the public that the rules around e-scooters are clear. Riders must be at least 16 years old, use on footpaths is strictly prohibited, and e-scooters must always be operated in a safe and legal manner.
Penalties for breaches of these rules can include fines, seizure of the e-scooter, and in more serious cases, prosecution.
“These laws are in place to protect everyone, especially vulnerable pedestrians,” said Gardaí in an online post. “Speak with young people about the importance of following these regulations.”
